Careers Advice & Interview Clinic


Careers experts will be on hand to give you the best possible advice about your future in engineering. Careers advice will be run as a drop in session so simply turn up and speak to an advisor!

This one on one advice can be about any aspect of your career including taking your next step, how to approach employers, selling yourself, and much more!


The interview clinic will take place over the two days of the exhibition and will cover all aspects of the interview process. Keep in mind that places for this will be limited so remember to book online before you arrive.


Free Presentations


There will be a variety of invaluable presentations taking place over the weekend which will provide you with an insight into:


  • What it's like to work for the company

  • What career opportunities they offer

  • How to get your CV to the top of the pile

  • What the application process involves

Engineering Challenge


A great addition to your CV and a chance to show off your skills, the Engineering Challenge is a great way to demonstrate your skills to the UK’s top construction and engineering companies.


Teams from universities across the country are invited to enter, competing against each other to design, build and test their own inventions. A £500 prize and a great point to put on your CV mean that the Engineering Challenge will be very popular and competitive this year.  The competition is open to teams of two to six university students. To enter simply email  necr@vmgl.com with the name of your team captain, a contact email address, telephone number and the day you would like to compete (29 or 30 November).


Tips to help you make the most of you day


Before you arrive:


  • Plan your day - before you arrive, take a look at the list of things that will be happening. There is more going on than just the chance to speak to employers, so make sure you take advantage of everything that will be useful to you!

  • Check the website - this is the best way to know what is going on and when

  • Sign up to the mailing list - providing you with up to date information about everything that is going on with the show.

  • Prepare your CV - come to the event with plenty of CVs to give to potential employers


On the Day:


  • Dress appropriately - arrive dressed for an interview. First impressions count!

  • Research - look into the companies you are interested in so you can ask relevant questions

  • Sell yourself - there will be lots of people attending the event so you need to stand out from the crowd.

  • Make the most of your time - plan your day out and make sure that you attend everything that could be of help to you
