Students are challenged to build a functioning aircraft from card working alongside engineers from the Aviation industry, while exploring the history and future of aviation. Aeroplanes then fly using radio controlled flight units. There is an option to stage an end of day air-show as part of the round up for a STEM day in school. The degree of challenge varies with the age range. Older students build unique designs while younger children follow learn the principles and history of aviation through building with ready made parts.
During the Covid 19 crisis and possible lockdown periods
Practical activity at home or in school is possible with aerospace engineers online. We will supply DIY video conference kits for teams in school to work remotely with engineers who will have the same kits as the students in school. Engineers will also present Tik Tok style films about their job roles to students or engage students in making these films with media assets they supply. The activity online will cover the principles of flight with both engineer and student using model gliders similar to those used by NASA to explore lift and drag. To discuss how the project can work in online in school or for home learners please contact us.
Pre and post learning materials and non-flying model kits to make exciting timeline of aviation displays are available

"Thank you for the fantastic experience you provided at Chew Valley School. The students (and staff!) had an absolutely brilliant time with your volunteers and got a huge amount of enjoyment...and learning... out of the day. You've helped to provide a lot of inspiration for the pupils involved and the school is extremely grateful. Many thanks for the link to the photo blog. The enjoyment of the day shines through their faces."
Mark Mallet, Head Teacher Chew Valley School, Somerset
“I volunteered for a day for “my future my choice” .Unlike some similar events I have supported in the past, I felt that the students got a lot out of it, and as a volunteer, I left feeling that I had made a real contribution”
Mattia Di Francesco, Research Engineer, National Composites Centre
